Dirty Little Secret

I Do, Do You?

August 19, 2007 · 4 Comments

So last night (when I should have been sleeping, of course) I stumbled into the “Do follow” movement. Above is the cute badge that I’m going to put on my site. But first, what the h*ll am I talking about?

Apparently the average blog layout (including WordPress, Typepad and Blogger) prevents people from linking to each other through their comments (in Blogger you can link, but only if the person is another Blogger user), it is called “no follow”. This means that comments are meaningless in terms of link love and in terms of Google rank. Which sucks. However, it is very easy to change your code to allow the link love, hence the term “do follow”.

That’s the best I can explain it, which is probably not very clear. However, I have hopefully provided lots of links that can explain it all better and allow you to join the movement. And now you know that commenting on my site doesn’t merely make me happy, it can help increase traffic to both of our blogs.
