Dirty Little Secret

Poor Senator Larry Craig. His self-hate has driven him to solicit sex in airport bathrooms, plead guilty when caught, try to hide the whole sorry mess and then claim he did nothing wrong.

What I wonder is that if being gay was as accepted as being Lutheran, would Republicans resort to chasing Congressional pages (Mark Foley), hooking up with prostitutes (Ted Haggerd) and going for hook-ups in airport bathrooms? If these men could just be openly gay or bi, would there be all this silliness?

Yeah, I said silliness. Their shame, subterfuge and scandal is SILLY. You can’t help being gay any more than you can help having blue eyes. And I’m really sick of hearing “God says. . .” or “The Bible says. . .”. God and the Bible say a lot of things that are routinely ignored. One of the Commandments, I believe, is “Thou shalt not kill”. Yet our nation goes to war and kills people. We have the death penalty, which kills people. People who kill in self-defense have their cases labelled “justifiable homicide. So why do we take the gay thing so seriously? It’s not even one of the commandments.
