Clearly it’s time for me to get some high-powered executive type job (never mind that I can’t even get a teaching job around here, surely I can get an executive position I’m not qualified for) and hire a cleaning lady. Or a cleaning man. Whatever- I’m not sexist. It’s just that the whole stay-at-home mom writing/blogging gig is not so lucrative (though any tips/websites/suggestions/job offers on how to make it more so would be much appreciated) and I need an Alice (like on the Brady Bunch).
My chore options today (as opposed to all the regular cleaning/straightening stuff) were mopping the first floor or cleaning out the refrigerator. Since I LOATHE mopping and love organizing, I decided to clean out the fridge. Although, honestly, how does it get dirty in the first place? It’s not like I let the children play in there. Anyway, I removed the contents and began scrubbing with my Target brand Clorox wipes. And somehow I slipped, banged my head on the produce drawer and made one of the shelves fall onto my head.
Yes, I injured myself while cleaning out the refrigerator.

I’m the opposite! I love mopping and scrubbing stuff but I DESPISE organizing things like the fridge or my closet! We should switch, I’ll do your mopping if you organize my life!

Oh, Mama, I hear you. I just cleaned out my fridge. Although I did not get injured in the process, OUCH!
I have black granite floors. Read that again. BLACK. With BLACK GROUT.
My floors never, ever, ever look clean. Ever.
I read a statistic that said most women worry more about the state of their floors than the state of their hair. I vowed to worry more about my hair, if I was one to worry about such things.
Alice would be OH, so nice. Where are ya, Alice? Women in need here!

An injury during cleaning? I think you have earned the rest of the day off!

i don’t like doing any of that stuff! none of it! i’d rather blog! but, you’re right…not lucrative. i’m trying to find a way to make it so but…payperpost and i…we don’t understand one another. i’m thinking of selling something…but, the idea hasn’t struck me yet…but, i’ll be waiting for that day. maybe i should clean out my refrigerator….something is bound to strike me there!!

I’ll trade you. I’ll clean and you can watch my loud, rowdy boys…fair? Love the blog.

I don’t mind mopping much at all, and cleaning the fridge isn’t too bad except there is one produce drawer we can’t get out because of the set up of the kitchen. It can get a bit funky back there.

I broke my toe making a peanut butter sandwich. It wasn’t even for me!

Colleen – Could we really do that? Because I would LOVE that. Possibly too much.
Jess – Maybe we could start an Alice cooperative – all pay in and everyone gets her for a week or something?
Kathryn – Oh yeah, I completely gave up after that. No more cleaning today.
Melbs1969 – Just wear non-slippery shoes when you clean the fridge. Not, of course, that I mean to imply that you have any dorkiness problems like mine.
Clemsongirls – Can I take the boys to the playground with mine? Then I’ll totally do it.
PG – Produce drawers are the worst, I think.
Aunt Becky – If you have blogged that story, you’d better go do it right now! But I am sorry for you pain and all.

Hee hee. No, I’m not laughing at you, I swear. Tee hee. This is why I don’t clean. Too much chance for injury.

I cleaned out my fridge on the weekend – that’s some sort of weird kismet, right?
Oh, and over Christmas? I gave myself a concussion by repeatedly smashing my head on the inside of the fridge (you know, the light part).

I’ve never understood how a refridgerator (or freezer) can get so dirty- especially if nothing is ever spilled!
But I’m with you- I’d much rather organize than mop or vaccuum.
LunaNik // February 19, 2008 at 8:33 pm |
Hahaha…I’m sorry…but that really is funny.
LifeAsIKnowIt // February 19, 2008 at 8:50 pm |
Hmmm, another reason for me not to clean out the fridge!
anglophilefootballfanatic // February 19, 2008 at 9:22 pm |
See your mistake was the cleaning. Now you know better. I have had some real humdinger accidents while attempting domesticity. Which is probably why I live in a ’sty.
jerseygirl89 // February 19, 2008 at 10:48 pm |
Jen – That’s okay. Laugh away.
Thalia’s Child – I think you win.
Wordvixen – There’s a certain joy in organizing that I just can’t get from mopping – probably because I know the mopping will become pointless by the next day.
LunaNik – Let my pain bring you laughter. No, really.
Life – Definitely avoid the fridge cleaning. Use my story as a reason why you should get someone else to do it.
AFF – I live in one too – and the fridge incident just means it’ll have to stay that way.

Cleaning is not my strong point, I’d much rather organize.
jerseygirl89 // February 20, 2008 at 10:08 am |
Domestic Diva – Exactly! It’s reassuring to hear that a domestic diva doesn’t like to clean that much either.

I don’t even have any kids in the house yet and my fridge gets dirty too! I don’t understand it either! Wait, unless my husband counts as a child…
Thanks for the comment!

I have to admit I TOTALLY hate cleaning out the fridge…it comes second to cleaning the bathroom..
ughhhhhhh
Leslie // February 22, 2008 at 1:14 am |
I sliced my thumb open shopping at Wal-Mart the other day.
I hate cleaning. Mostly, I avoid doing it.
jerseygirl89 // February 22, 2008 at 10:25 am |
kuwaitia2 – I think husbands count!
canadianflake – Oh no, I’d much rather do the fridge than the bathroom. But both are preferable to floors.
Leslie – Ouch! I hope it’s better. I’ve been avoiding cleaning too.
