Let’s suppose that your family only has one car, which your spouse HAD to take to work that day. And let’s suppose that it was raining off and on. And that your double stroller was still in the back of your one car, anyway. And let’s suppose that you have the world’s worst headache which can only be medicated with useless Tylenol because you’re five months pregnant.
Given those parameters, how would you entertain your two and three year old ?
A. Spend the day doing creative art projects, playing stimulating learning games and cooking nutritious meals together.
B. Have the nanny do creative art projects, play stimulating learning games and cook nutritious meals with the children.
C. Put the portable DVD players in each of their rooms and leave them a few snacks so you can back to bed.
D. Let them watch too much Noggin, read them a few books and half-heartedly play tea party and trains.
Please tell me you picked D. Or C. Yeah, tell me you picked C so that I can feel superior instead of lazy. You can even say B, since then I can at least feel poor instead of lazy.
If you picked A, um, please tell me that you also have a prescription painkiller addiction or something.
Thank you in advance for easing my guilt.

Um… I’d pick D, and laze around on the couch reading while they watched Discovery Kids. There would be no tea parties or trains though. I’m lazy like that. Especially with a headache that can only be medicated with useless Tylenol. Hang in there!

I try to do A, once a week. Usually on Monday. By Friday we are doing D, even if I don’t have a migraine by then.
Noggin is GREAT programming!

D. Definitely D. I’m a bad mother. And you know what?
I don’t care.

Totally D. Without a doubt.

Wait…you only do this when you have a HEADACHE? Because this mostly sounds like a normal day to me.

Definitely C. But it wouldn’t be peaceful sleep because I’d worry about something happening to them and the subsequent fallout which later, in a blog, would be tagged “bad mom” or “why does this crap happen to me.” So, after 15 minutes I’d get back up and proceed to D and park it on the couch. When the other car got home, I’d got back to bed and sleep peacefully.

I cannot comment on this…as I sit in bed blogging while my 4 year old watches Disney and my 7 month old naps…

C all the way. I am very well versed in those awful pregnancy headaches. I know how debilitating they can be. Put on some DVD’s, give them the BIG juice cups you have stashed in the back of your cabinet, hand them a bag of Goldfish crackers and GO TO BED.
You’re welcome

Mercy – To be honest, tea party and trains lasted only for a matter of minutes.
Connie – I’m better at taking them on outings than doing projects – I think if you manage one day of A you’re doing great.
Becky – You are so not bad. You’re cool.
AFF – You’re cool too.
Karly – Well, it’s normal for after nap for us, but I usually try harder in the morning and early afternoon.
Janet – I think that’s why I haven’t tried C.
Scarlet – you are the perfect person to comment!
LunaNik – You are SO cool. Too bad I’m such a chicken.
Jen – I may have to try that.

I second Karly! Although like you I try more in the mornings.
I think there are times Craig would be much happier sitting around the house and playing with his toys or watching Clifford rather than head out again (at least he is like that lately) or deal with mad mommy LOL

My choice is D. And I don’t need a headache to justify it.
